How the AdvantaJet Works

The Activa family of Advanced Needle-Free Injection Systems is a revolutionary alternative for diabetes management. The AdvantaJet operates by injecting a subcutaneous stream of insulin without the discomfort associated with traditional needle and syringe injections. In addition to being comfortable, this system delivers insulin more effectively, providing efficient absorption and often even resulting in a reduction of dosage for the patient.

A micro-jet stream of insulin painlessly mists through the outer skin and into the subcutaneous layer below. This process eliminates the skin trauma caused by needle and syringe injections. As well, jet injection results in a more rapid increase in plasma insulin concentration.

The insulin is actually injected through tiny orifice at the head of the injector, penetrating the skin through an opening less than 1/4 the size of a conventional needle. The insulin then spreads through the tissue at the injection site. The size of the orifice opening is 0.006 inches, where the size of a needle is 0.28 inches.
